Safkeg-LS
The Safkeg-LS packages are being fabricated by Columbiana Hi Tech (CHT) in NC under contract to Croft who owns the package design and the NRC certificate. Although developed for MURR, the Safkeg-LS package will be available from Croft to all users. International shipment will be possible under an IAEA certificate issued by the DOT.
The Safkeg-LS package is designed to be robust and simple to use. It consists of a stainless steel outer keg with a flange type lid fastened by bolts. The shielding pot assembly has a containment vessel (CV) provided by the welded stainless cavity walls and the flange closure which is fitted with double O–ring seals. The CV lid is fastened by studs and nuts and the CV is carried in the keg within the cork packing. The CV lid is fitted with a test port for carrying out the pre-shipment leakage test of the containment system in accordance with ANSI N14.5.
The package gross weight is less than the 150 lb FEDEX max weight limit for simple shipment.
Quality Assurance
The NRC have audited Croft’s Quality Management System and accepted that it meets the requirements of 10 CFR and the additional requirements of the NRC for fabrication of packages for the shipment of radioactive material
